Musculo-Skeletal Symposium Enhances the Role of UOD in Medical Collaboration

On Thursday, September 14, 2023, the College of Medicine at the University of Dohuk, in cooperation with the BioActive/ESB Group Company, held the second “Musculoskeletal System” symposium in Dohuk under the organization of the Orthopedic and Unit in the Department of Surgery at the College of Medicine and the Arthritis and Rheumatology Center in the Dohuk Governorate Health Directorate. With the aim of sharing experiences and knowledge among specialists in these two fields, sharing the latest research related to them, and discussing the latest treatment methods and newly established medical devices, a number of experts and those interested were invited to explore the latest developments in musculoskeletal medicine.

During the symposium, in two sessions, eight doctors presented medical topics related to muscular diseases, osteoporosis, arthritis, meniscus tears, and others. In addition, at the end of each session, scientific discussions took place on the topics raised between the presenters and participants who were from the University of Dohuk and doctors from Dohuk, Zakho, Akre, and Mosul, which contributed to creating an atmosphere of cooperation and knowledge sharing. This effective exchange of ideas and experiences was crucial in enhancing understanding of the complex medical issues discussed during the symposium.

Among the topics presented was the topic of “patellofemoral pain syndrome,” which was presented by Dr. Samyan Nayef, an orthopedic specialist from Dohuk. Dr. Samyan spoke about the cases he experiences of knee pain and osteoarthritis in the knee joint, especially in the young age group. Explaining the reasons Dr. Samyan said: “This is a common condition caused by sitting for long hours in front of a computer screen, for example, or in a car, or the like, which results in osteoarthritis as a result of this constant friction in the area surrounding the joint.” The doctor also presented a set of exercises that help in reducing this pain and strengthening the muscles in the joint. In addition, the “Second Musculoskeletal Symposium in Dohuk” received well-deserved recognition and recognition, underscoring its importance as a platform for continuous learning and career development. Participants were awarded three Continuing Medical Education (CME) or Certified Academic Development (CAD) points, confirming its importance as a platform for continuous learning and career development.

It is worth noting that this activity is the second of its kind, as the first musculoskeletal symposium was held last year by the College of Medicine. As Dr. Dildar Haji Musa, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Dohuk, showed and said that the Faculty of Medicine will hold the symposium for the third time in the future as well. This activity will become an annual event as planned.

Note that the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Dohuk constantly holds various activities and seminars in all medical specialties, in order to become familiar with the latest developments and learn about the latest scientific developments in the medical fields.
