Conservation of Traditional Structures and Materials
March 30, 2024, 1:22 p.m.

Traditional structures are crucial assets for development. However, the conservation of

these traditional structures is an understudied issue in our education program in the

College of Engineering. This has led to a limited presence of engineers knowledgeable in

conservation of traditional structures. Consequently, local conservation efforts have been

limited at best and generally unsuccessful, and structural conservation is done mostly by

international experts and professionals. The conservation of traditional structures requires

the involvement of multiple disciplines (survey, civil, and architectural engineers). This

five-day international workshop will be held with the support of our partner, the World

Monuments Fund. The training course will be addressed by Petr Justa from GEMA ART

International Institute of Heritage Conservation and Education and Dr. Shireen Younis

(lecturer at the Surveying Department).
