A Local Training is Held for Teachers MOD Project Engaging Teachers from Basic Education Colleges in Participating Universities

In the framework of the project “Teachers MOD: Future Elementary School Teachers Modernization in Kurdistan, in which the UOD is a partner, a 2-day local training workshop on teaching Methodologies was held and hosted by the UOD’s International Relations Directorate in the Convention Center on February 12-13, 2024. The training had an active participation from the universities of Duhok, Salahaddin, Zakho, Raparin, Halabja, and Pavia.

The training was run by the IR Director, Dr. Nizar Amin and the Project Coordinator, Antonio M. Monroe, from the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Pavia in Italy. The first day of the training was dedicated to focus on: History and Politics of the past. The Project Coordinator leaded the discussions with the attendants on the related topics, cooperatively with his colleagues Emanuela Mangiarotte and Federica Ferrero. The action plans of the upcoming year of the project were shown to the attendants. During the meeting, powerful discussions were made among the participants expressing their ideas on how to improve the Curricula of History subject adopted at the schools including gender equivalence, student involvement, and other points.

While on the second day, the lights were shed on Concepts and Categories of Contemporary History and Women Studies, besides Teaching Contemporary History in KRG institutions, Debates and Perspectives. During the two days of the workshop the emphasis was on improving teaching methodologies and developing the scientific materials to be in its best versions provided to school students.

It is worth mentioning that the project of Teachers MOD has started in February, 2023, and will last till January, 2025, and is implemented jointly by the partner universities: Duhok, Zakho, Salahaddin, Raparin, Halabja, Pavia, Granada, Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, and UNIMED and funded by the Erasmus Programme of the European Union. Its objectives include investigating the gaps in the curricula, improving the academic offer at the field of social sciences, and training and building capacities of the academic staffs and pedagogical centers at higher education institutions in Kurdistan.
