University of Duhok Celebrates Earth Day with Student-Led Environmental Initiatives

University Press Office (UNPO) | As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and global awareness, the University of Duhok (UOD) proudly marked Earth Day 2025 with a series of inspiring student-led activities across different colleges.
Architecture Students Showcase Environmental Innovation
On April 21, 2025, students of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) Chapter at the Department of Architecture, College of Engineering, organized an event at the UOD Student Center. The event featured a range of creative projects that highlighted major environmental challenges and offered innovative, sustainable solutions.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Lawand Kamal, Advisor of the AIAS Chapter, emphasized that the students' work reflects a growing awareness among future architects about the critical role of design in protecting the environment. Each project demonstrated practical ideas for addressing environmental issues through architectural innovation and sustainability.
UOD-ACS Students Lead Earth Week Celebrations with a Focus on Natural Solutions
Meanwhile, on April 24, the UoD_American Chemical Society (ACS) International Student Chapter at the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Ecotourism at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, hosted another Earth Day activity. The event aligned with the ACS Global Earth Week (April 20–26, 2025) and focused on promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living practices.
The activity showcased demonstrations on the use of natural products for environmental preservation. Dr. Hadar Saeed Faizy, Head of the Department of Environment and Ecotourism, presented practical applications of eco-friendly materials, encouraging students to adopt sustainable habits. Students actively participated by preparing traditional foods and natural displays, creating an interactive and educational environment.
The event was attended by Dr. Nabaz Ibrahim Mohammed, Vice President of the University of Duhok for Student Affairs, Dr. Marwan basheer Isamail, Vice Dean of the College ofAgricultural Engineering Sciences, Dr. Suhad Abdulrahman Yaseen, supervisor of UOD-ACS International Student Chapter, alongside university instructors and students, further highlighting UOD’s institutional commitment to environmental stewardship and student empowerment.
Reinforcing UOD’s Strategic Vision
These Earth Day celebrations align with the University of Duhok’s 2023–2038 Strategic Vision, which emphasizes:
