Medical Physiology and Pharmacology

About the Department

The Departement teaches medical physiology for Medical College student in the second year and also teaches general and clinical physiology for postgraduate students in the clinical departments. Physiology is one of the most important basic subjects for Medical College students. Therefore, teaching of this subject makes the students well oriented about normal functions of different organs & systems of the body. This provides a scientific base for the students to understand the pathophysiology and abnormalities that occur in different diseases

Description

For postgraduate students in clinical departments, the syllabus deals with the pathophysiology of different diseases based on the clinical ground. Postgraduate lectures are organized in such a way that each group of lectures fits with the specialty and subspecialty of the field in wich the students are working in

Vision

The vision of the department of physiology and pharmacology is to be recognized as the medical colleges' foremost educational program in physiology and  pharmacology, preparing undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows to take their places as leaders in the medical and allied health professions, academia and biotechnology/biopharmaceutical industries.

Mission

1.  Undergraduate students typically enter the life sciences program where they take a foundation physiology course in the second year, and pharmacology in the third year having essential preparation in biology, chemistry and physics.

2. To establish leadership role in the pursuit and development of knowledge through training and research in the subjects of physiology and pharmacology.

3. Enhancement and improvement of research activities are target aims of the staff members in the department.

4. Furthermore, department is striving hard in the development of indigenous technologies to contribute the country in self-reliance.

Objectives

1. The syllabus has been arranged in a manner to provide concise information about human physiology and pharmacology for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

2. Summaries of relevant anatomic, biochemical and clinical medicine are included to illustrate pathophysiologic points and disordered functions.

3. Quality doctors are produced having professional expertise and technical skills.

4. Produce researchers who can face the new challenges of physiology, pharmacology and biomedical sciences.

5. Provision of modern research facilities in the laboratories.

6. Develop linkages with other universities/institutes to promote research activities.

7. Produce physiology and pharmacology staff with good practical and technical skills.
