1,700+ Artworks on Display at Department of Plastic Arts Exhibition

The University of Duhok's College of Humanities hosted a remarkable art exhibition, featuring the works of talented students from the Department of Plastic Arts. The eleventh edition of this annual event took place on May 23, attracting esteemed guests including Mr. Ali Auni, Head of the First Branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Dr. Dilshad Abdul Jabbar Haleem and Dr. Nabaz Ibraheem Mohammed, Vice President of University of Duhok, Jawhar Ali Aziz, Duhok Regional Governor, Omar Ali, General Director of Education of Duhok Province, and other dignitaries from the academic, government, and artistic spheres.

The exhibition, inaugurated by Mr. Ali Auni, showcased an impressive array of artistic talent. A total of 188 artworks, crafted by 31 fourth-grade students as their graduation projects, were on display, alongside numerous pieces by students from lower grades. The collective display comprised over 1,700 captivating artworks that captivated visitors.

The event's significance lies in its long-standing tradition of providing a platform for students to showcase their artistic prowess and establish connections with the wider university community. Head of the Department of Plastic Arts, Dilgash Jasim Azeez, emphasized the exhibition's importance in nurturing students' diverse painting styles and encouraging social engagement through art.

Notable exhibits included Najiba Mohammed Qasim's "Colors in the Sky Space," an intriguing blend of materials portraying the expansiveness of the universe and the disappearance of modern humanity. Alan Idris Mustafa presented "An Artistic View of Existence and Non-Existence," a thought-provoking fusion of sculpture and painting exploring the dichotomy of existence. Peri Azad Ahmad's works on women's freedom, collectively titled "Women, Life, Freedom," expressed essential concepts such as strength, compassion, and beauty.

University of Duhok remains committed to fostering academic, artistic, and cultural activities that enrich the development of its students and colleges. This exhibition serves as a testament to the university's dedication to nurturing talent and celebrating the diverse perspectives represented within its academic community.

The University of Duhok (UOD) is a public university in the city of Duhok city, which is about 150 km northwest of Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér), the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan Region (KRI).
