Preparation for an Agreement between the UoD and Sirnak University in Turkey

2010-02-20

A delegation from Sharnakh University in Turkey visited the UoD  in order to establish academic relations, and the exchange of cultural and scientific activities between the two parties, for the new academic year. These steps will contribute to strong working ties between the two universities. The delegation also invited the UoD to participate in an international conference that is to be held in Turkey later this year, in which 100 academic researchers will take part.

According to Dr. Naseem Duro, from Sharnakh University, the reason for the visit was to closely examine the capabilities of the UoD, showing admiration for the progress the university had achieved, expressing their hopes for continuous advancement.

Meeting, with Dr. Asmat M. Khalid, President of UoD, and a number of the university instructors, Dr. Naseem said "Sharnakh University is working hard to host a scientific international conference in May of this year; therefore, we came to the UoD to observe and to take benefit of its experience in this aspect and to extend an invitation to its members to participate." He added “The conference will last for three days starting on May 14th with the last day of the conference planned to be held here at UoD”.

According to Dr.Naseem, the conference will create opportunities for Sharnakh University to take advantage from academic experiences, as it is a new university, established only a year ago. There will be discussions on a number of topics related to politics and the economy. Seven instructors from the UoD along with a high level delegation from the American University in Sulaimanyia will participate in the upcoming conference.

Continuing, Dr.Naseem said, “We hope, with the presence of Sharnakh University and the associations with the UoD to contribute to  establishing and strengthening relations among the Middle Eastern people, including Turks, Kurds, Arabs and Persians since our problems are common and we should be supportive of any peaceful resolution, understanding and dialogue."

Concerning the affairs with the UoD, Dr. Naseem Said "We look forward to to signing a protocol with the university, regarding its contribution in starting a department for Syriac studies and  Kurdish language, in addition to exchanging staff and students for beginning joint studies and research. It is planned to invite Dr.Khalid to visit Sharnakh University to turn this protocol into a practical reality".
