A Delegation from the Kurd of the Former Soviet Union Visits the UoD

The University of Duhok (UoD) received a delegation of academic Kurds from the Former Soviet Union on the 19th of Oct. 2011. The delegation discussed with the university’s board the ways of cooperation to start new relationships.

The delegation from Russia, Kirghizstan and Armenia met with the President of the UoD, Dr. Asmat M. Khalid and his assistants. In an open session, the President welcomed everyone and presented a brief overview on the university. He talked about the development that the UoD is achieving in spite of all the difficulties it went through since its establishment until the liberation war on Iraq. He stressed the importance of the international relations with universities abroad especially those who contain Kurds. Hence, the UoD accepts students coming from countries that include Kurds such as Kirghizstan, Georgia and Armenia. This can opens the door to start cooperation and strengthen bridges among the Kurds wherever they are. The President also commented on the focal role that the UoD plays in building the society especially that it was established through the decision and support of the KRG’s President, Mr. Masoud Barzani.

The delegation expressed their appreciation and willingness to start new cooperation with the UoD especially when they inquired about the scientific departments at the university and the study system there. They were pleased for the prosperity that the university is witnessing which helps in spreading the national awareness. Moreover, the delegation visited a number of academic institutes in the Kurdistan region.
