The President of Kurdistan Region and the American Ambassador to Iraq visit the UoD

The University of Duhok had the pleasure to receive the President of the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Masoud Barzani and the American Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Christopher R. Hill, at the university’s campus on the 11th of July 2010.
They met the University President and the University Council members at the University’s Social & Cultural center. In the meeting, Dr. Asmat M. Khalid, the President of UoD, gave a brief talk about the establishment of the university in a difficult time and the crucial support given by President Barzani, and said; “when the decision of establishing the University of Duhok was made, it was regarded as a rather difficult step, but with President Barzani’s support, the university was established in 1992... Today, the university is playing an important role in constantly providing services to the Kurdish society in the region’’.
The Vice President for International Relations at the UoD, Dr. Dawood Atrushi gave a detailed presentation about the University, its International Relations with academic and scientific institutions worldwide in general and with America in particular.
Mr Hill showed interest to help the UoD to activate its cooperation with American Universities on a larger scale, and he would look at the possibilities to push the cooperation forward.
Before their visit to the UoD, President Barzani and the American Ambassador toured a number of archaeological and sight-seeing locations in Amadya., where they were received by the Governor of Duhok and a number of government and political officials.
The American Ambassador showed interest in the archaeological sites saying;’’The Kurdish people had a great and proud history and that the Kurdistan Region had a natural beauty, which deserved to be served and supported.’’
