Looking for stronger relationships with Kurdistan universities; a delegation from Sirnak, Tunceli, Mardin Artuklu and Kilis 7 Aralik Universities in Turkey, paid a visit to the UoD on May 16th, 2010 .
The Turkish delegation arrived in Duhok through Ibrahim Khalil Border crossing and were met by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr.Dlawer.A.A.Ala’Aldeen, the Governor of Duhok and the President of UoD. Before arriving in Duhok, the delegation had participated in a conference in Sirnak University in Turkey for two days.
At the UoD Presidency, the delegation was received by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Regional Government, along with the Presidents of the UoD, Soran and Salahaddin Universities.
Headed by Dr. Ali Akmaz, President of Sirnak University,the Turkish delegation signed protocols of scientific and economic agreements with the Kurdistan Regional universities, and discussed exchange visits for university instructors and students.
After leaving the Presidency, the delegation met with Mr.Tamar R. Fattah, Governor of Duhok. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Presidents of the Kurdistan universities. The Governor shed light on some important points such as the general situation in the region; the conditions of the Kurdish universities especially the UoD, developing scientific relations, and student exchange visits. The Governor showed enthusiasm and support towards the visit, hoping that it would improve relations between the two parties.
In the evening, the delegation visited the First Branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) where they met with Mr. Sarbast Lazghin, Head of the Division. Mr. Lazghin stressed the importance of this kind of visits, which strengthens relationships and develops the scientific level of students from the Turkish and Kurdish universities. At the end of the visit, Mr. Lazghin presented souvenir gifts to the Turkish guests.
For his part, Dr. Ali Akmaz,, showed his delight to be in the Kurdistan Region, expressing his wishes that the procedures of obtaining travel visa’s would be facilitated, making it easier to move between the Region and Turkey.
