Two Norwegian researchers from the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, PRIO, visited the UoD on April 19th 2010, to carry out a research project, together with the university researchers, on the Kurdish diaspora who have returned back to Kurdistan from Norway.
The Norwegian researchers met with Dr. Asmat M. Khalid, the President of UoD, and discussed the possibilities of cooperation with the university in areas of peace aspects. PRIO's participation in a conference on Peacebuilding in Iraq which the UoD plans to hold in the spring of 2011 was another issue of the discussion.
Dr. Dawood Atrushi Vice President for International Relations at the UoD said; "we know there are a large number of Kurdish people living in Norway, and since 2000 many have returned back home to live in Kurdistan for different reasons, with a limitied help from the Norwegian Government." Dr Atrushi went on to say, "this is a very significant time to discuss this project with the PRIO Institute."
The two researcher's plan during their visit was to carry out research, by meeting people who have returned home from Norway to Kurdistan. They collected information from the people they interviewed, discussed with them the positive and negative points of the program. They also talked about the assistance given to them by the Norwegian Government.
