22 Iraqi Universities Staff participate in a Training Course on” Higher Education Leadership and Management in Iraq”

In line with the new system the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research plans to apply on the higher education leadership, 22 staff members from different Iraqi universities participated in a training course in Britain from March 13th, to 23rd2010.

The Kurdish universities were represented by 8  staff members; 2 from the University of Duhok, the others from the University of Sulaimani and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Erbil. Other participants who attended the course were from Baghdad , Basrah , Al-Nahrain and Mosul Universities, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Baghdad.

A seminar was given by British instructors and administrative members on the administrative system of higher education and quality assurance. Other important points discussed were how to find resources of financial funding for the university budget, and how to deal with society and carry its tasks through research and private companies.

Taking part in the course, Dr. Dawood Atrushi, Vice President for International Relations at UoD, said “the course was held at the University of Exeter in Southern Britain.’’ Dr Atrushi, also mentioned ‘that there would be two more courses held in the future, the first would be in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the second in Britain”.

The participants discussed the higher education systems in their universities, and a plan was drafted for important requirements that are needed for each institution. Dr. Atrushi added, “We paid a visit to the Kurdish Research Centre at the University of Exeter, this university is ranked within the top 10 among British universities”.

The participant also visited the University of Plymouth where they closely examined the educational and administrative system there. A cooperation agreement was signed between the participating universities and their British counterparts
