Students Transfer

1- Students Ascending to Colleges with Higher Grade Point Average
       Students have the right to ascend to a college with a higher grade point average under the
       following conditions:
       a - The student should pass the first stage without any years of failure or postponement.
       b - The student must finish the first stage as the first in his/her department with an average
             grade point no less than 80%.
       c - A student who wants to ascend to the medical group colleges should have no less than 70%
            in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in high school from the first sitting.
            Ascending to the engineering group colleges requires no less than 70% in Mathematics and
            Physics in high school from the first sitting.
       d - Having fulfilled the above conditions:
  • The first student in the Department of Biology at the College of Science and the first student at the College of Veterinary Medicine can ascend to the College of Medicine.
  • The first student in the Department on Chemistry can ascend to the College of Pharmacy.The first student in the departments of Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Geology can ascend to the College of Engineering.
  • The first student in the College of Agriculture can ascend to the College of Veterinary Medicine.

       e - Having fulfilled the above conditions (a and b):
          The first student in the departments of History, Geography, Social Studies, Archeology and
          Philosophy can ascend to the College of Law.


2- Students Transfer to other Universities and Institutes

        Students have the right to transfer to other universities and institutes with the
        following conditions:

       a - The student must finish the first year with a grade point average of no less than 70% from the
             first sitting.
       b - The student has the right to transfer if one of his parents dies in the same year; he/she
             should provide the required legal documents.
       c - The student has the right to transfer if he/she gets married; he/she must provide the required
             legal documents.
       d - A female student delivering a baby has the right to transfer; she must provide the required
             legal documents.
       e - Sons and daughters of martyrs and students whose families suffered from genocide (Anfal)
             can transfer; they must provide the required legal documents.
       f  - Sons and daughters of university teaching staff (lecturers, assistant lecturers, professors
             and assistant professors) have the right to transfer after successfully finishing the first year
             with a passing average.
       g - Students of a certain morning class department can transfer to equivalent evening class
             department in the same university after having the approval of both departments.
       h - Students enrolled in evening classes do not have the right to transfer to the morning classes.
       i  - Students of private sector colleges do not have the right to transfer to governmental colleges.
       j  - Any transference should be done through the concerned institutes, colleges and universities
            and a letter should be sent to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Researches, as
            well as to the Students Admission Committee. 
       k - Every letter of transference should be signed by the president of the university.
       l  - Transference requires filling the application form number 2 in the Registration Directorate at
             the university considering the approval of both parties.
       m-The University Board may take some cases of transference demands in consideration like
            the cases of sickness or bad social conditions.
     
The students should provide the required legal documents (provided that he/she successfully finished the first year with a passing average).


3-Students Transfer from Iraqi Universities and Institutes

       a - Transfer is limited to very necessary cases; first year students are not allowed to transfer in
             any case.
       b - In these limited cases, students transfer will submit to the same conditions applied for the
            students enrolled in Kurdistan universities and institutes.
       c - The conditions of the region should be taken in consideration for all academic stages.
       d - Transfer is not allowed between colleges and institutes affiliated with the Ministry of
             Religious Affairs in Kurdistan Region or those affiliated with the Sunni endowment (Waqf) or
            Shiite endowment (Waqf).
       e - The student and his/her family should be Kurdistan Region inhabitants; he/she should
             provide the required legal documents to prove that.
       f - Students should start the application process in his/her original college by attaching his/her
            C.V, including a list of the subjects and the units for each subject. Then, the application
           should be submitted to the concerned college in the region.
         If the new college requires two annual or four seasonal additional subjects, the student must
         return to the previous stage.
        
       g - Students who finished high school in the region and where accepted in colleges in the other
             parts of Iraq, do not have the right to transfer to any college or institute in the region.
  

4-Students Transfer from Colleges and Institutes Abroad to Kurdistan Universities and Institutes

       a- A first year student who has finished high school in the region or other Iraqi high schools and
            has been accepted in a college or institute abroad, will be transferred to a college or institute
            in the region according to his/her high school grade point average, compared with the year
            he/she finished secondary school.
       b- A student in any other stage who has finished high school in the region or other Iraqi high
            schools and has been accepted in a college or institute abroad will be transferred to the
            same department and stage given the following conditions:
  • The college or institute should be governmental and recognized by UNISCO and the International Association of Universities (IAU).
  • The student needs to meet the required high school grade point average (for the year he/she graduated) in order to be admitted in the equivalent college in the region.


       c- A student in any other stage who has finished high school in the region or other Iraqi high
            schools and has been accepted in a college or institute abroad will be transferred to the
            same department and stage given the following conditions:
  •  His/her certificate is going to be compared with high school certificates in the region.
  • The student will be admitted in the college or institute for which his/her grade point average qualifies him/her.


       d- If the student has finished high school abroad and has been accepted in a college which is
            recognized by UNISCO and the International Association of Universities (IAU), he/she will be
            transferred to the same department provided that he/she has successfully finished the first
            year with a passing grade point average.


5-Students Transfer from Kurdistan Region Universities to other Iraqi Universities

       a- The student needs to have letters of approval from both universities; then, he/she will receive
            a university order.
       b- There will be some facilities for the student if he/she decides to return to his/her first college
            according to the conditions.


6-Students Transfer from Kurdistan Region Universities to Universities Abroad

       a- The colleges and departments to which students transfer must be equivalent.
       b- Letters of approval are needed from the department, college and university.
       c- A letter of acceptance is needed from the college to which the student wants to transfer.
    

7-Students Descending to Colleges with Lower Grade Point Average

       a- A student who has been accepted in a certain college in the region does not have the right to
            transfer in the first year; he/she can only descend to another college with a lower grade point
            average.
       b- A student can descend if the minimum grade point average needed in his/her department is
            higher than the minimum grade point average needed in the department he/she wants to
            descend to.
       c- Students enrolled in evening classes can only descend to another evening class at the same
            university.
       d- Descending is not allowed in departments that require interviews, art or physical tests, such
            as Physical Education, Nursing, etc.
