The University of Duhok in the current stage doesn't offer any scholarships for students from other countries.
However, if you are from another country and you live in Kurdistan you can apply to the university provided that you fulfill all the conditions.
- What are the specializations available at your university?
The university website lists the colleges with their departments and specializations for which you can apply for.
- If I have finished the secondary stage outside the region, can I apply for your university?
If you are a citizen of Kurdistan and you have gained your secondary stage certificate from out side Iraq, you can apply for the University of Duhok. You will submit to the same conditions and regulation required from those who finished the secondary stage in Kurdistan.
Teaching at the University of Duhok in all scientific colleges is conducted in English, while in the humanitarian colleges; teaching is conducted in Kurdish and Arabic.
- Can I transfer to University of Duhok from another university inside the region? What should I do?
You can transfer to the University of Duhok after successfully finishing the first year. You need to gain acceptance letter from the University of Duhok. Then you need to submit all files and documentation required (original copies).
You also need certification and approval from your previous university.
- Can I transfer to University of Duhok from another university outside the region?
In case you are an Iraqi citizen, you can transfer to the University of Duhok after successfully finishing the first stage provided that you finished the secondary stage out side Kurdistan region.
In case you are an Iraqi citizen living outside Iraq, you can transfer to the UoD. You need to gain acceptance letter from the University of Duhok. Then you need to submit all files and documentation required (original copies). You also need certification and approval from your previous university.
- If I have been accepted in a certain college at your university, can I move to another one?
You can move, at the first year, to another college that accepts students with less average.
- If I already have a Bachelors, Master or PhD degree, can I apply for another one?
If you have a Bachelors degree, you can only apply for Master Degree if you fulfill the conditions, but not for another Bachelors degree.
If you have a Master degree, you can't apply for another one but you can apply for PhD. in the same specialization.
If you have a PhD you can't apply for another one.
- When does the academic year start/end?
The academic year starts on September 22nd and it ends on July 8th. For more information about the dates of the university activities, you can check the academic calendar.
- What days of the week are classes held?
Classes run from Saturday through to Thursday.
- What breaks are there during the academic year?
There is a two-week mid-term break between semesters plus summer holiday in addition to the national and religious occasions.
- Is there a deadline for application?
Undergraduate applications are due on the first week of July.
The deadline for graduate studies will be announced on the university website.
- What are the admission requirements?
To apply for a seat in the university, you need to have:
- formal graduation certification from ministry of education (original copy)
- a passing grade from high school
To apply for a seat in the Master Degree program, you need to have:
- An undergraduate grade that enables you to compete with the other applicants. This grade should be no less than 70% and not less than 65% if you are an employee in the university.
- The student may apply for Master Degree two years after receiving undergraduate degree and one year for the student who graduates the first in his department.
- The student must pass the scientific qualification test in his specialization.
- A passing score on the qualification test of English and computer skills.
- A resume or C.V.
- What tests and examinations are required for the application? Where can I take them?
There are no examinations required but you may need to take a course in Kurdish, Arabic, or English language depending on your area of study.
For Master Degree, you need to pass a qualification test of English and computer skills. After that, you have to pass the scientific qualification test in the appropriate department of your specialization.
The average degree of your scientific qualification test (30%) and your undergraduate grade (70%) must not be less than 60%.

The personal interview is needed only for students applying for Master or PhD.
- How about the application fee and the expenses?
There are no fees with the exception of an annual fee of 450000 ID for evening classes.
For Master Degree, there are no fees and the university covers (1.5) million Iraqi Dinars for the research purposes.

You don't have to live in a hall of residence.
- When do I apply for a place in a hall of residence?
You need to apply for accommodation within a week after acceptance to the University of Duhok.
- Am I guaranteed a place in a hall of residence?
Yes, you are guaranteed a place in a hall of residence except for students of evening studies.
- Are the halls of residence separated on base of gender?
Yes, student housing for males is separated from that for females.
- Is there access to computers, internet, and telephones in rooms?
In each hall of residence, there is a T.V and a phone but no computers.
- What are the safety conditions around your university?
The conditions around the university are very safe since it is in Kurdistan; the safest area in Iraq.
- What medical services does the university provide?
The medical treatment is for free for all.
