Objectives
Forestry department provides high quality education and research programs to enable students analyzing issues of plantation, A forestation, Silviculture, assessment the mechanisms used in selection of reforestation zones, growing industrial plantations successfully, establishing trees for farm forestry and agro-ecological zones, park and summer resorts, enhancement of wildlife, performance and sustainability of forestry and water shed management activities, much emphasis is always made of providing knowledge of soil fixation and water supplies preservation (for Kurdistan mostly a mountainous region).

The forestry department was established in 1995 to provide professionals in the field of forestry:
- The B.Sc. program initiated in 1996.
- A program for M.Sc. was initiated in 1998.
- Master degree was first offered in 2000.
- The average annual enrollment is (25) students for the undergraduate and (4) for the graduate level.
- During 1996 – 1998 admission based on the average of the student marks of the first year of enrollment in Agriculture.
- From 1999 admission based on average of student marks of the baccalaureate.
- The department follows the credit – hour system.
