 About the Department
The department of Law was founded in 1999. It consists of undergraduate and graduate studies. The new graduate studies were opened under the name of Peace and Conflict Resolution, which is the first of its kind in Iraq. Four students were admitted and the department hosts foreign professors as visiting teaching staff. The Peace studies were opened with the coordination of the United Nations University in Costa Rica.

 Description
The Department of Law follows the annual system of the teaching for the undergraduate Classes and semester systems for the Graduate Classes. The annual system starts in mid September every academic year according the university calendar and it concludes by the end of June. During the length of this system students must sit seasonal exams and final test in every class. The college of law was following the semester system that was stopped according to the recommendation of the higher education conference in Erbil which was held during the year 2007.

 Objectives
The department of law aims to develop the education process continuously at  college level by providing qualified teaching staff and tracking their scientific work and progress. The department encourages scientific research by the teaching staff  ,also aiming to fulfill the needs of  society according  to the market needs. by providing qualified staff as well as fulfilling the needs of the government institutions.  Achieving these goals the department opened graduate studies for Master’s and Doctoral degrees in the college.
