The School of Dentistry has been running an undergraduate dental program which was established in November 2008.

The first batch of dental students is now in the second year of the BDS program. The accomplishments manifested by the different branches of science have inspired the University of Duhok to develop a Dental school within the Faculty of Medicine that can meet the challenges of the next generations’ dentists.

Vision
The School of Dentistry is committed to pursue excellence in Dental Sciences by having a leading role in the region’s dental education, community services, research and development.

Mission
The school’s mission is to establish a Regional Center of Excellence in Dental Education through an innovative and a high quality teaching-learning approach.

•  To respond rapidly to and reflect developments in the science and practice of dentistry.
• To reduce formal contact hours for teaching to provide greater opportunities for self-directed, experiential learning throughout the course
• To facilitate greater opportunities for contextual learning. Integration, balance, and flow of material throughout the course are important objectives.
• To introduce more problem-based learning throughout the course to facilitate the students’ integration of materials and application of knowledge.
  
• To make greater use of developments in computer-aided instruction, audio-visual material, and laboratory-based technique exercises.
• To develop a course that students find stimulating and enjoyable. Such course is one that instills a desire to continue learning throughout the students’ lives.
