School of Education – Zakho
Departments
The College of Education is not only one of the largest colleges in the university but one of the most recognized in the country and, as such, offers one of the most stimulating and challenging environments to study in. The large size of the college allows for unparalleled opportunities for graduate study and the diversity and the breadth of interest is represented by the 10 departments that make up the College of Education. The dominant languages – Kurdish, Arabic and English – are studied in depth. The need for secondary teachers in Duhok province encouraged the development of the College of Education in 2002. Because of this shortage, the College of Science studies' program was suspended and the college staff was transferred to the College of Education. The students were then admitted to the College of Education to continue their study as students of the College of Science. In 2006, the College of Science was reinstated as a separate college from the College of Education while the College of Education remains thriving. Although organized on a departmental basis, graduate study within the college is not confined to disciplinary boundaries. True to its founding purpose, the faculty encourages interdisciplinary activity and recognizes that much innovative work has derived from intellectual stimulus of multidisciplinary study. This crosses not only departmental boundaries but also extends to collaboration with other faculties.
