DepartmentsThe college offers a four-year course of study leading to a Bachelors degree in Physical Education for undergraduate study.
The College of Physical Education integrates and applies knowledge from the biosciences and humanities in the study of a broad range of issues related to human movement. The College is committed to comprehensive and innovative approaches to teaching and training of a variety of sports. The College's principles and practices endorse the values of diversity, exclusivity, health and wellness through physical activity, inquiry, and professional preparation in education, research, and service.
In 2005 the College of Physical Education was established. It was formerly a sub-department in the College of Education. Aside from the academic study, the college offers special training courses for teachers as continuous education.
The college was established on 3/5/2005 under no. 1025 according to the resolution of the Ministry of Higher Education of scientific research.
The college is characterized by the sporting academic nature and scientific lessons of various athletic games. Additionally the graduates are rewarded a third class referee certificate.
The strategy of the physical Education college:-
1- Keeping up with the scientific and technological upgrading especially in the sport field and education field generally.
2- The college's contribution to provision of the required proficiencies of the postgraduate certificates (Master, Doctorate) in the various sporting specialties.
The College of Physical Education has philosophical visions to deepen the modern belief about a career in Physical Education amongst societal sectors and spreads its rightful concepts for practicing them. It also aims to develop a plan to change the physical, emotional, social, and practical means of attaining the best physical fitness. The college concentrates on dealing with science related to the physical field and activates the academic and educational connection through technology and communication.
- Developing and updating the programs of the sporting education in the educational institutions throughout preparation and application of new styles and methods of teaching of the athletic activities.
- The vocal preparation and rehabilitation (in the field of sport) at the sporting activity level to improve the levels of the sporting clubs locally regionally and internationally.
- Rehabilitation of good researchers to keep the scientific research going and to enable them to research, face the problems and solve them by using new methods.
The students have aquirred experience and knowledge in the various areas of specialization . They receive practical skills through training in the regional establishmnets in addition the experience of writing their reserachs projects.
The college can be distinguished from the other colleges by its variety of specializations which might be considered the base for any development of the country . The college is also open to other speciallizations and participates in strategicplanning. It is characterized by having a local cadre and distinguished athletic facilities in addition to the scientific aspect in the lessons.
The College has a good connection with practical life as it fulfills the aims of any desired design of the people and governmental requests. Once the students have graduated, it is expected that they will be able to offer the scientific services based on the academic and practical knowledge they gained during their four years of study. The college is expected to offer services to the society through the students who graduate from its departments.
There is good relations between the college and other colleges, private sector and governmental directorates by offering continuous education courses and giving all consultation requested. There is a cooperation exchange between the college and other colleges by supervision on high education researches and study courses ,besides dealing with external examiners to evaluate high er educated student thesis.
The college has relationships with many different parties through scientific fields. Concerning cultural relationships, there are relationships with cultural centers such as the Cultural and Social center which is related to the University of Duhok and also there are relationships with the civil society.
The College of Physical Education annually organizes championships for minimized football, basketball handball and volleyball for the college students. The college also annually organizes a marathon and swimming championship on February 2nd. Every year on May 3rd, the day on which the college was founded, the college’s annual festival commences which includes organizing a camp (tent encampment) for the first year students. In the camp, sporting events such as gymnastics, dueling, wrestling and karate are held in the morning shift. Where as, in the evening shift, the field championship for the students at all stages are held. Additionally, it is worth – mentioning that all the referees are students from their own colleges and the aim behind this is to teach students how to manage and run the matches.
